Curriculum & Practical Scope
Modern application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) miners operate under extreme thermal and electrical stress. When hashboards drop chains, register 0 ASIC chips, or experience voltage domain failure, replacing entire units is prohibitively expensive. This 2-day hands-on clinic takes participants through systematic root-cause diagnosis, test fixture utilization, serial bus communication tracing (CLK, RST, BO, RI, RO lines), micro-soldering chip replacements, and thermal interface renewals.
Hands-On Learning Outcomes
- ✓ Interpret ASIC kernel error logs to identify specific hashboard fault codes and drop-outs
- ✓ Trace voltage step-down buck circuits (12V to 1.8V, 0.8V, and 0.4V core domains) with precision digital multimeters
- ✓ Diagnose serial signal loop interruptions using test fixtures and oscilloscope signal verification
- ✓ Execute safe hot-air desoldering and precise re-balling of individual ASIC hash chips without board delamination
- ✓ Re-seat and re-paste heatsink arrays using high-viscosity thermal adhesives and thermal pad specifications
- ✓ Recover corrupted EEPROM control board firmware through UART serial interfaces and TF card flashing
Daily Workshop Schedule
Day 1: Architecture, Power Distribution & Signal Tracing
Morning: 09:00 - 12:30 | Power domain schematics, LDO regulators, buck circuit diagnostics, and cold resistance measurements.
Afternoon: 13:30 - 17:30 | Test fixture operation, signal line tracing (CLK, TX/RX, RST), identifying open circuits and failed passives.
Day 2: Micro-Soldering, Heatsink Rebuilding & Validation
Morning: 09:00 - 12:30 | Hot-air rework techniques, stencil reballing, chip alignment, and solder bridge prevention.
Afternoon: 13:30 - 17:00 | Thermal interface compound application, full load bench testing, kernel log verification, and Q&A.
